Loei Gr

Loei Gr

Period:
Carboniferous, Permian

Age Interval:
Pennsylvanian-Permian (14)

Province:
Indochina Block: Loei Fold Belt

Type Locality and Naming

Pha Nok Khao Platform (Loei region): Defined by Ueno K. & Charoentitirat T., 2011 to incorporate the upward succession of the Wang Saphung Fm, Nam Mahoran Fm, E-Let Fm and Pha Dua Fm. The upper three had been conventionally placed in the Saraburi Gr, which is more appropriate for the southern (Saraburi) region of the Loei-Phetchabun Range. In the Khon San area to the south, they applied the Loei Gr to the upward succession of the Huai Som Fm, Pha Nok Hao Fm and Hua Na Kham Fm.

Synonym:

Lithology Pattern:
Sandy limestone

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

An emergence at around the Mississippian-Pennsylvanian boundary separates the underlying Ban Sa Ngao Fm from the Wang Saphung Fm at the base of the Loei Gr.

Upper contact

Terminated by the Indosinian I Event (latest Permian); Next higher regional unit is the Hua Hin Lat Fm of late Triassic.

Regional extent

Loei region.
